Harmonies Du Soir. A festival of French chamber music. A beautiful way to bring the year together.
Ivan Turgenev’s novella Le Chant de l’amour triomphant provides the central thread for this concert's program. The story follows a love triangle bound by a single violin melody. Ernest Chausson drew on this story for Poème, shaping the violin line to echo the novella’s recurring theme. His earlier Concert for Violin, Piano and String Quartet extends the theme, blending chamber intimacy with symphonic scale, a balance noted by critics at its 1892 premiere.
