WAYS TO HELP

South Melbourne Town Hall

On the southern edge of the CBD, the South Melbourne Town Hall currently sits empty and fenced-off despite being close to the Melbourne Arts Precinct, well-serviced by public transport, surrounded by cafes, businesses, arts companies, schools, and a couple of minutes walk from the South Melbourne Market.

The restoration of this beautiful but broken building is an absolute necessity.

ANAM and Peter Elliott Architecture + Urban Design have unveiled plans for a stunning multi-million dollar transformation of the Town Hall, creating a set of state-of-the-art destination venues and a vibrant hub for creativity, education and community.

THE GOALS OF THIS PROJECT ARE TO:

  • Save the South Melbourne Town Hall from further, likely terminal, decline.
  • Provide a safe and secure home for ANAM.
  • Provide the local South Melbourne community – and the broader community – with a much-needed cultural and community hub.
  • Inject a new energy and a revitalised focus into the surrounding precinct.

THIS PROJECT WILL DELIVER:

  • Melbourne’s newest cultural destination venue with two new public performance spaces.
  • A transformation of the Main Hall into a spectacular, accessible venue seating up to 350 people with flexible presentation modes and the best in sightlines, stage production possibilities, acoustics and comfort.
  • A sophisticated, convertible Performance Studio seating 150 people.
  • Welcoming facilities, with a bar and commercial kitchen to cater for large events.
  • Flexible spaces for community use.
  • Meeting rooms, available for community hire.

With huge potential to host a wide variety of events from comedy shows to community meetings, dance spectaculars to seminars and school presentations, a renovated South Melbourne Town Hall will once again be a place of gathering, a central meeting point, a tourist destination, and a centre of inspiration and creativity for all.
