ANAM at the Convent: Dark Full Ride

"Take a wild ride on the highway of American percussion music, all the way from LA to New York City! Danny Elfman – famous for his many award winning scores for Hollywood (including Batman) – shines in a beautiful mallet quartet and Julia Wolfe  translates the pulse of down-town Manhattan into a tour de force for 4 drum-sets. Seat-belts advised!" – Peter Neville, ANAM Head of Percussion

Written for Talujon Percussion Quartet in 2002, Julia Wolfe's Dark Full Ride is a piece for 4 drum kits deriving its name from a line printed on one of the ride cymbals Wolfe workshopped ideas on. Beginning with hi-hats before incorporating the cymbal the work eventually spreads to the the full drum kit.

"Just opening and closing the cymbals allow for symphonic possibilities. You can play the cymbals on the edge, play on the bell (top), roll, attack, be delicate, and my favorite – make the hi-hat roar." – Jula Wolfe
