As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2025 ANAM Recital series.
Colour, Character and Charisma
"This program explores the bassoon as a multifaceted instrument capable of showcasing a range of colours and characters. From the contrabassoon's deep reedy colour demonstrated on some thieved Bach to the virtuosic heights of the Bitsch concertino, the bassoon family can really do it all. A poet, a story teller and a joker all at once, Alyssa Morris's trio shows the bassoon's capability for all of this and more, alongside its good friends, the oboe and piano. But in the end (for me), the bassoon will always simply be about the expression of sheer joy, as you will hear in the world premiere of a trio for not one, not two but three whole bassoons, each pouring out sonic happiness laced with humour, tranquility, and of course, fun!" — William Hanna
