As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2025 ANAM Recital series.
"Throughout history the stereotypical Frenchman is present as the epitome of cool and mysterious; treating tourists to their beloved country similarly to the invisible dirt plaguing the soles of their Louboutin's whilst adjusting the fit of their slanting beret. However, their niche in art and music — Impressionism — reveals a different side to their supposed elitism. Utilising colours —both in terms of art and music— that seem to float across the blank canvas, French artists and composers are masters of fragrancing the air within a room. However, this is not to say their works lack emotional complexity or meaningful depth, rather the French prioritise the attainment of beauty over everything. Regardless of whether the intended emotion be of negative, the question always asked of the performer is how delightful, charming and alluring can themusic become?" — Sophia Jones
