ANAM Recital: Robin Hall

As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2025 ANAM Recital series.

Apples, Allegros, Alleluias
"This recital explores the tuba's expressive qualities, spanning from Romantic lyricism to contemporary whimsy. Opening with the unique combination of horn quartet and solo tuba, Danielssons's Konsertant Svit showcases the tuba's versatility as a solo instrument. Adagio and Allegro adapts one of Schumann's most famous works for French Horn for the tuba, juxtaposing reflective and emotional sections with lively, joyous ones. The Love of Three Apples is a play on Prokofiev's The Love for Three Oranges, demonstrating the singing quality of the tuba. Plau's Concerto demands technical excellence, with challenging high playing, before concluding with the cheerful Everyday An Alleluia by Barbara York." — Robin Hall
