As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2025 ANAM Recital series.
Beethoven's Warmth, Ysaÿe's Fire, and Messiaen's Transcendence
"In this recital, I want the audience to experience a journey that moves through very different sound worlds. Beginning in silence and suspension with Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, where time itself seems to dissolve and music opens onto the infinite. From there, Beethoven’s Spring Sonata bursts with warmth, light, and dialogue. And finally, Ysaÿe’s Violin Sonata No. 2 brings fire, virtuosity, and echoes of Bach, pushing the violin to its expressive and technical limits. What amazes me about these works is how each, in its own way, expands what music can do—by transcending time, radiating joy, or igniting sheer intensity." — Hannah Tyrrell
