As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2025 ANAM Recital series.
Bonjour, Buenos Aires!
"With flavours journeying from France and across the world to Argentina, my percussion recital is a celebration of percussion works that come from these two very different, yet similar, countries. Opening with Sejourne's beautiful marimba concerto, I will play the first 2 movements with pianist Louisa Breen. Following that, my percussion colleagues at ANAM will join me to play Trio Per Uno, by Zivkovic, a fun bass drum trio which is a delight to play and will have audiences full engaged. Following this, we head to Argentina, where the recital takes an emotional turn exploring grief, with Golijov's Mariel (with fellow ANAM colleague, Boudewijn Keenan on Cello). To end the recital, we will finish with a piece very special to me, Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla's Libertango. Only this time, I've written music for a small string orchestra to join me!" — Caleb Goldsmith
