ANAM Recital: Allan McBean

As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2025 ANAM Recital series.

Double Bass Songbook
"I'm very excited to be presenting these works of intense lyricism and pathos on the rich sound of the bass. Perhaps my first obsession in the world of classical music was the vast collection of lieder by Schubert, so it has been deeply rewarding to explore his melodic vocabulary in the Arpeggione sonata. The peice has so many little poignant turns and backward glances, as well as passages of simple spring-like joy. It has also been a pleasure to prepare De Falla's collection of Spanish songs and Teppo Hauta-aho's Kadenza,  which have allowed me to explore different colours on the instrument." — Allan McBean
