ANAM Recital: Andre Oberleuter (bassoon)

ANAM Recitals are an opportunity for musicians to make their own personal musical statement, through performance, repertoire and presentation.

"The fashionable key of E-flat major has supported some of the most beloved pieces in the history of classical music. From Beethoven's 3rd Symphony "Eroica", all the way to the "Nimrod" theme from Elgar's Enigma Variations, this key displays fire, solidarity and passion, which is why I am so excited to pair two favourites from Mozart and Strauss.

Opening the program is Mozart's luscious Quintet in Eb Major for Piano and Winds K 452, which showcases the charming timbres of the Piano and Winds combination. A very classic work of Mozart, reminiscent of Beethoven's Quintet Op. 16 for the same ensemble, and said to be Mozart's favourite composition!

Paired with Strauss’ exquisite Sonata for Violin and Piano in Eb Major Op. 18, reworked for Bassoon and Piano by yours truly, captures the bold and courageous characteristics of the key. The inspiration behind my daring arrangement comes from my craving for the monumental works for piano duo that are more common for Violin or Cello. This work further demonstrates virtuosity and communication from both instruments, and expresses his love to Soprano, Pauline de Ahna, whom he would later wed." - Andre Oberleuter
