In this innovative presentation, ANAM’s Head of Piano, Timothy Young, will lead a team of ANAM pianists in a round-robin through Beethoven’s masterwork, at two pianos.
- Along with Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Beethoven’s set of 33 variations on a theme by his contemporary Anton Diabelli is considered a pinnacle of the keyboard repertoire
- Beethoven takes Diabelli’s simple waltz melody and transforms into myriad expressive shapes, in an epic work that, over the course of an hour or so, reaches deeply into a vast emotional world. In many ways this is music that touches on the essence of our humanity
