ANAM alumna Kaylie Melville, Co-Artistic Director of Speak Percussion and Rubiks Collective, returns to direct ANAM’s percussionists in Missy Mazzoli’s Millennium Canticles — a post-apocalyptic song cycle that reimagines ritual in a fractured world.
Written in 2022 for the Chicago ensemble Eighth Blackbird, the work blends ancient chant with mechanical rhythm and flashes of dark humour. Its five movements follow a community of imagined survivors rebuilding belief through sound — part prayer, part invention.
Under Kaylie’s direction, ANAM’s percussionists bring this strange, compelling world to life, revealing Mazzoli’s vision of renewal through rhythm, precision and play.
