ANAM Recital: Jonah Spriggs

As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2026 ANAM Recital series.

Jonah's First Year Recital
"Upon brief inspection, links can be found to create relationships between three of the four works chosen for this recital. There is a work written by Ysaÿe (Sonata No. 3), a work written for Ysaÿe (Chausson’s Poeme) and a work written in the same year as Ysaÿe’s sonata (Bloch’s Nigun) in 1923. Though all three convey a mixture of emotions ranging from dark and sorrowful, to brilliant and beautiful, each does so in its own distinct way. The fourth work by Handel doesn’t have any distinct connection to the other three but instead serves as a counterweight of sorts, balancing out the other three through a more simple display of beauty and, for the most part, cheery disposition." — Jonah Spriggs
