As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2026 ANAM Recital series.

"This program explores the tactile extremes of the cello repertoire, beginning with the angular and percussive Hindemith before a palate-cleansing dose of Boccherini. We culminate with a little-known yet beautiful sonata in one movement by Gabriel Pierné, whose elegiac style is something akin to a blend of Gabriel Fauré and César Franck.
Incidentally, this program also exposes the semantic broadening of the word "sonata." I imagine that Boccherini would struggle to recognise Hindemith's capricious five-movement work as a sonata at all. Yet, despite their differences in style and form, these works all share a sense of intimacy, each one a private conversation." — James Monro
