As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time – simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how, in the 2026 ANAM Recital series.
Roman Holiday: Italian Pieces for Double Bass and Piano
"At the heart of the this program is Nino Rota's expressive Concerto for Double Bass. A prominent Italian
film composer best known for “The Godfather” and “Romeo and Juliet”. This would not be a bass recital without music by Giovanni Bottesini. His playful Introduction and Gavotte and the poignant Elegy No. 3, showcase the instrument's liveliness and expressiveness. The journey continues with a newly composed work written for the 2026 Bottesini Competition as well as an Australian solo work by Dermot Tutty. Finally, Krzysztof Penderecki's Duo Concertante demonstrates the limits of the double bass." — Alyssa Deacon
