Beginning with violin at the age of three, Tom has been surrounded by classical music for much of his life. Though always interested in concerts and performers, it was not until he learned the horn in high school with Linda Hewett, that he felt music could be a career.
Tom completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at the University of Melbourne, studying with Carla Blackwood and Nico Fleury, taking part in masterclasses with Stefan Dohr, Andrew Bain, Casey Rippon, Genevieve Clifford, and Simen Fegran. Participating in orchestral concerts was a highlight for Tom whilst at the conservatorium, most notably, a performance of Mahler’s Symphony no. 2 at Hamer Hall in 2022. He was also fortunate to tour to Singapore and Malaysia with the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2023.
Tom has been involved in programs with the Australian Youth Orchestra since 2022, which included a national concert tour with Sir Mark Elder in 2022 and playing Principal Horn of the Alexander Orchestra at National Music Camp in 2023.
A member of the National Boys Choir of Australia between 2011 and 2016, Tom sang in concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Carols by Candlelight and at major sporting events in both Melbourne and Sydney.
Outside of music, Tom loves food and exploring Melbourne’s culinary scene; he also loves films and frequenting the cinema. Music, however, remains his biggest hobby, whether that is attending concerts or tuning in to the Berlin Philharmonic’s Digital Concert Hall.
Tom is excited to continue his second year of training at ANAM in 2025, studying with Carla Blackwood and Ben Jacks.
