Phoebe's journey with music can be traced back to the moment her older brother stood up and imitated the performing violinists during a classical concert for kids and was subsequently enrolled in violin lessons. Once deemed old enough, at the mature age of 4, Phoebe excitedly followed suit. These events sparked a love for music that has withstood the test of time through both COVID and a 3-year hiatus, during which she pursued her interest in maths and coding and completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne (UoM).
Despite intending to focus on academics, Phoebe was a member of the UoM Symphony Orchestra throughout her science degree, touring Asia with the orchestra in 2023. After moonlighting as a music student, she decided to pursue music professionally in 2024, studying a Master of Music (Orchestral Performance) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, UoM with Dr. Curt Thompson, whilst working part time as a data scientist. She was the a recipient of the Corinna D'Hage Mayer String Scholarship, June Frances Ball Award, and the Alberto Zelman Violin Scholarship for Excellence.
As a soloist, Phoebe was awarded third prize in the 2024/25 Kendall National Violin Competition and was a finalist in both 2024 and 2025 Concerto-Aria Competitions at the Conservatorium. She has enjoyed performing in masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Maxim Vengerov, Daniel Dodds, and Simon James, and in chamber collaborations with members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Australian String Quartet. A highlight was attending the Tianjin Juilliard Orchestal Symposium with her string quintet, travelling to China to perform in chamber and orchestral concerts alongside music students from top music schools across the globe.
A passionate orchestral musician, Phoebe served as concertmaster of the UoM Symphony Orchestra in 2025 and performed with Orchestra Victoria (OV) as a Richard Bonynge Orchestral Fellow. She joined Australian Youth Orchestra for their 2025 International Tour, performing across Europe, and enjoys working with OV and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as a casual musician.
Phoebe is currently in her first year at ANAM, under the tutelage of Adam Chalabi. In her spare time, she can be found reading, sketching, playing sport, and loves to go on walks, even if only to do some dog-spotting.
