MusiciansMiffy Wang

Young Tasmanian pianist Miffy began her musical journey at the age of seven on electric keyboard. Surprised by her fondness for the instrument, her parents invested in a real piano only six months later.

Since 2017, Miffy has studied with Shan Deng, completing her AMusA (2020) and LMusA (2021) from the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB). In 2025, she attained a Bachelor of Music with first-class honours and a University Medal at the University of Tasmania under the guidance of Shan Deng, Karen Smithies, and Arabella Teniswood-Harvey. During her studies, she was supported by the Conservatorium of Music Scholarship and the University of Tasmania Honours Scholarship. Miffy has also received mentorship from Alexey Yemtsov.

Miffy is the recipient of awards including first prize in the Hobart Eisteddfod's Open Piano Recital, the ROSL Tasmanian Branch Prize in Classical Piano, the Margaret Stoermer Prize for Best Third Year Performer, and the OSSA Music Prize, leading to a solo piano tour across Tasmania with her program celebrating Tasmanian composers.

In 2024, Miffy made her concerto debut under conductor Simon Reade, performing Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the UTAS Student Music Collective. Alongside solo work, she enjoys performing in chamber ensembles and orchestras, having been a member of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra and worked as an accompanist at Hobart College for the University Connections Program. In her spare time, Miffy enjoys swimming.

Miffy is thrilled to commence her first year at ANAM in 2026 under the tutelage of Timothy Young.
