MusiciansLachlan McKie

Lachlan McKie is a 22-year-old Melbourne-based violist with 17 years of experience on both the viola and violin. He completed his schooling at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) initially on violin before switching to viola and pursuing higher education.

Lachlan has had the privilege of learning from esteemed teachers such as Dale Barltrop, Christopher Moore, and Fintan Murphy. He also had the opportunity to perform for and collaborate with renowned musicians including Richard Tognetti, Tahlia Petrosian, Christopher Cartlidge, and Stefanie Farrands. Lachlan has garnered extensive experience in chamber music, orchestral playing, and solo performances in numerous concerts at VCASS and performing as a soloist at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Lachlan has performed in a diverse array of chamber music ensembles on both violin and viola, earning accolades and winning multiple eisteddfods and competitions.

Lachlan has a profound passion for collaborative music-making, particularly within chamber music settings. He finds immense joy and inspiration in the intimate and intricate interplay of chamber ensembles, where each musician's voice contributes to a cohesive and expressive whole. He also enjoys composing and arranging, and away from music he enjoys photography and is a passionate sports fan.

In 2025 Lachlan commences studies at ANAM under Caroline Henbest.
