MusiciansJosephine Daniel

Known for playing with ‘delightful character and energy’, Josephine loves to share her passion for music with her audiences. She received her Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium under the tutelage of renowned clarinettist and composer, Paul Dean and Principal Clarinettist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Irit Silver. She undertook a semester of her studies at the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Finland after a successful audition into their exchange program, where she received lessons from internationally esteemed clarinettists Harri Mäki, Fàtima Boix Cantó and Christoffer Sundqvist and expanded her horizons to the global music scene. During her time in Europe, Josephine also received masterclasses from the Principal Clarinettist of the London Philharmonia Orchestra, Maura Marinucci, and took part in the XVI International Clarinet Seminar in Spain with Yehuda Gilad, Professor of Clarinet at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music and the Colburn School of Music. Josephine is very excited to continue her musical journey at ANAM in 2025 under the expert guidance of David Thomas.

Josephine has appeared as soloist with the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and the Indooroopilly Chamber Orchestra. She was awarded Third Place in the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition as well as ‘Most Promising Woodwind and Brass Player’. As an accomplished orchestral musician, Josephine has performed on numerous occasions with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Youth Orchestra. She toured internationally with the Queensland Youth Symphony to Singapore, Austria and Germany, performing in prestigious venues such as the Musikverein and Mozarteum concert hall. She looks forward to touring internationally again in 2025 with the Australian Youth Orchestra, performing in prestigious venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Sydney Opera House. She is also a keen chamber musician and has worked alongside Ensemble Q and the Australian String Quartet. When not playing the clarinet, Josephine enjoys swimming, playing piano, baking and hiking with friends.
