MusiciansJamie Wallace

Jamie commences his first year at ANAM, studying with Howard Penny.

Growing up surrounded by musicians, Jamie began learning the cello at the age of three, later attending Sydney Grammar School on a full music scholarship.

Chamber music has been a major part of his musical life. As a member of the Cousin Quartet, he was awarded first prize in the inaugural Musica Viva Strike a Chord Competition and received both the ANAM Residency Award and the Flinders Quartet Prize. In 2024, Jamie returned to Strike a Chord with the Fritzi Piano Trio, winning first place again, and was also a finalist in the Kuringai Concerto Competition.

Jamie has participated in a range of Australian Youth Orchestra programs, including the flagship orchestra, and has held leadership roles in National Music Camp and Young Symphonists. He has taken part in the Australian Chamber Orchestra Academy and the Orchestra Project at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

A recent highlight for Jamie was performing Antonín Dvoƙák's Cello Concerto with the Chungnam Philharmonic Orchestra in Korean.

Jamie looks forward to expanding his chamber music work whilst at ANAM, collaborating widely, and developing his playing under the mentorship of Howard Penny.
