MusiciansDavid Imlay

David commences his first year at ANAM in 2026 under Yoram Levy and David Elton.

David completed his Bachelor of Music Performance from Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney, under the tutelage of Owen Morris and David Elton and was named in the Dean's List of Excellence for 2024.

David's trumpet journey began at the age of 7 after discovering it was the second loudest instrument after the drum kit, which his parents did not let him play. He played throughout primary and high school, taking a renewed interest in classical music and professional practice in late high school.

For David, the highlight of his studies was playing in chamber ensembles finding that the sound and performative range of the brass quintet struck a particular chord. In 2025, his brass quintet was chosen to participate in the Australian Festival of Chamber Music Pathways program in Townsville playing in masterclasses wiht Stefan Dohr. David also regularly performed in principal seats throughout the University's ensembles including the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony Orchestra; he also had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses with Phil Cobb and Andrew Bain.

Outside of his studies, David has performed regularly with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He has also enjoyed competing in Premier and A-Grade brass bands, which led him to perform in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Christchurch, New Zealand.

When not practising, David enjoys cooking, the outdoors and exercising wherever, and however, he can.
