MusiciansCaleb Christian

Adelaide-born cellist Caleb remarks that his love for cello began in the womb, reportedly moving with excitement in response to Saint-Saëns' The Swan. Two decades later, this passion has taken him to Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Canada, Singapore, and across Australia, performing in some of the world's greatest halls, including the Concertgebouw, Musikverein, and Sydney Opera House. In 2025, Caleb is thrilled to commence his first year at ANAM, under Howard Penny.

Caleb completed his Bachelor of Music with Distinction at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, where he had the privilege to study under Dr. György Déri and Hyung Suk Bae and was awarded the Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship. While studying, Caleb led various orchestral projects and participated in side-by-side programs with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Australian String Quartet, Ensemble Q, and Los Angeles Philharmonic Wind Quintet.

In 2025, Caleb was honoured to join both the Camerata Upbeat and Southern Cross Soloists Next Gen training programs. He has also participated in Australian Youth Orchestra programs since 2022, most recently travelling to Europe for the International Tour 2025.

Caleb's love for chamber music was sparked when he began high school in 2017, becoming a founding member of the Pirulí String Quartet. In 2021, the quartet was a finalist in Musica Viva's Strike a Chord competition and awarded the Flinders Quartet Mentorship Prize. Caleb co-founded Fiddlesticks Quartet in 2023 and Orleigh Quartet in 2024.

Caleb participated in masterclasses with the Takács, Quiroga, and Australian String Quartets, and performed in the Musical Chairs (Montréal), Stradbroke Island (QLD) and Tyalgum (NSW) Chamber Music Festivals. Fiddlesticks Quartet won the Ross Peters 4MBS Chamber Music Prize in 2024 and 2025.

Alongside his passion for cello, Caleb enjoys going on riverside walks, drinking specialty coffee, and enjoying vibrant conversation with good friends.
