MusiciansAmi Humphreys

Ami's introduction to music began with the recorder, then expanded to fife, flute, saxophone, and oboe.

Ami completed their Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2025, studying with James Kortum and Emma Sholl (Principal Flute, Sydney Symphony Orchestra). During their degree, they had the privilege of studying flute and piccolo in Copenhagen with Ulla Miilmann (Principal Flute, Danish National Symphony Orchestra) and Russell Itani (Principal Piccolo, DNSO) and participating in masterclasses with Andrea Oliva and Elizaveta Ivanova.

Upon their return from Europe, Ami discovered a love for historically informed performance and the Baroque flute after being enamoured by a period instrument orchestra. This led to starting traverso in their final year of study, under the guidance of Melissa Farrow (Australian Brandenburg Orchestra).

As an ensemble player, Ami enjoys collaborating with other passionate, young musicians in orchestral and chamber settings. Ami was Principal Flute for the Australian Youth Orchestra International Tour 2025. They enjoyed unforgettable experiences performing in world-renowned concert halls such as the Musikverein, the Concertgebouw, and Congress Graz.

Ami played flute, piccolo and alto flute with the Sydney Youth Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, and various chamber ensembles.

Ami is delighted to be commencing their first year at ANAM in 2025, under Alison Mitchell.

When not fluting, you can catch Ami at the gym, pole studio, and studying languages.
