MSO & ANAM: Great Passions - Radulović plays Khachaturian

Please note: Tickets for this concert are currently only available to MSO subscribers. Single ticket presales will begin on October 27, with General Public tickets on sale on October 30.

If you’re the type of listener who likes to experience the full force of the orchestra, this concert is for you. Our stage will be packed with musicians from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performing alongside next-generation talent from the Australian National Academy of Music. Sitting in Hamer Hall, the colossal scale of this combined ensemble will envelop you in the sounds of Shostakovich’s Symphony No.4. The composer declared his work be a product of his “great thoughts and great passions”. So great were those passions that his symphony inspired both awe and controversy, delaying its premiere by more than two decades. It has survived many decades more.

Like the symphony, Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto was composed during the Soviet Era. It blends the composer’s Armenian heritage with Western classical traditions. It’s also one of Nemanja Radulović’s signature works, so don’t miss the fiery solos under the skilled hands of this Serbian-French violinist. Chief Conductor Jaime Martín will lead the way.
