Composed for Jasmine Milton and Sophia Jones

Commissioned by the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) as part of the ANAM Set 2026 and written for Jasmine Milton and Sophia Jones, to be premiered during ANAM’s 2026 recital season at the Abbotsford Convent, Melbourne. 

The 2026 ANAM Set commissions are supported by the Anthony and Sharon Lee Foundation.


About the composer:
Lydia Gardiner is a composer and singer from Perth, Australia, currently based in The Hague, The Netherlands. She holds a Bachelor degree with First Class Honours in Music Composition from the University of Western Australia and a Master of Composition with Distinction from the Royal Conservatoire, The Hague. She was the recipient of the Holland and Excellence Scholarships from the Conservatoire, as well as the Henk van der Meulen Award for the Best Composition Exam (2025). She was also the recipient of the Dorothy Ellen Ransom Prize for Composition from the University of Western Australia (2019).

Lydia has been commissioned by the West Australian Young Voices, The UWA Con Cantorum, the Giovanni Consort, the St George’s Cathedral Consort, the Anglican Schools Commission, Tura New Music, Perth Orchestra Project, The Choral Collective, the Perth Guitar Quartet, the University of Western Australia Choral Society, Fiore Chamber, and the Australian Vocal Ensemble. 

In 2021, Lydia’s work A New Ceremony of Carols was performed to a sold-out audience by the St George’s Cathedral Sonus Angelorum choir and was later broadcast on the radio station ABC Classic. Two of her works have been recorded and released on albums; the five stages of grief performed by Adam Pinto, and The Town of Wind performed by the Perth Guitar Quartet. In 2024, she was awarded the Schenberg Fellowship (Music) and received a grant from Creative Australia (2025) to undertake her project The Zeewijk Passion.

Lydia is from Perth WA / Boorloo, Whadjuk Noongar country, and is based in The Hague, The Netherlands.
