Composed for Karen Chen
Commissioned by the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) as part of the ANAM Set 2026 and written for Karen Chen, to be premiered during ANAM’s 2026 recital season at the Abbotsford Convent, Melbourne.

About the composer:
Elizabeth Jigalin is a composer, performer and artist who lives on Gadigal land, Sydney. Guided by curiosity, she collaborates and creates across art-forms. Elizabeth traverses experimental, improvised, interdisciplinary and chamber music contexts, and her work has been featured at festivals worldwide including: Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Tonkunst Konstanz, Biennale of Sydney, Extended Play, Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music, Percussive Arts Society International Convention, Women of Noise and Australia’s Silent Film Festival. She is grateful to be the recipient of several awards including the 2025 Pauline Oliveros New Genre Prize, 2023 APRA/AMCOS Art Music Fund, 1st Prize Centenary of Canberra Composition Competition, and 1st Prize Unbound Flute Festival competition.
At present, Elizabeth is Composer-in-Residence for Moorambilla Voices Miyay Ensemble and Voices of Women. She has been an Artist-in-Residence at Harrigan’s Lane CoLab, Sydney Youth Orchestras, Bundanon, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Bondi Pavillion, and minciospace_ (Vienna). Additionally, Elizabeth is the founder of the music box project, an award-winning collective known for their interdisciplinary and exploratory music-making. The group has premiered over 50 new works and remains central to Elizabeth’s practice.
Elizabeth is based in Sydney, NSW on Gadigal land, Eora Country.
