Max began his musical journey at age 8, picking up the trombone as it was the “loudest one in the band”.

He continued with trombone throughout his school years, learning from Greg Van Der Struik in 2017 and 2018. Max graduated from Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney in 2023, where he studied under Ashley Carter, Nigel Crocker and Scott Kinmont. 

In 2022, Max won the Sydney Conservatorium Concerto Competition and had the opportunity to perform Henri Tomasi’s Trombone Concerto with the Sydney Conservatorium Orchestra.

Max is currently in his third year of training at ANAM, learning with Colin Prichard. During his time at ANAM, Max has been fortunate to perform with Auckland Philharmonia, Adelaide, Tasmanian and West Australian Symphony Orchestras as well as participate in the LITTIN International Trombone Quartet Competition in Germany in 2024.

Max plays extensively in numerous ensembles including orchestras, wind ensembles, brass bands, jazz bands, and chamber ensembles.

In his spare time he enjoys art, motorsport, learning about geography and observing birds.
