In his first residency at ANAM, exceptional musician and oboist David Walter shares his knowledge with ANAM musicians, leading them in two premieres.
- One of the world’s most significant oboe pedagogues, David Walter was only 29 when he was appointed the youngest-ever oboe and chamber music professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He is also a conductor, composer, an active commissioner of new music and a tireless transcriber; in the interests of expanding the oboe repertoire, he has made more than 230 arrangements, one of which – his masterly arrangement of Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn – concludes this morning’s program
- The concert also includes a classic for wind dectet, by Debussy’s friend and sometime-collaborator André Caplet. His Suite Persane is a beguiling souvenir of imperial France and its fascination with the exotic
- Former Justice of the NSW Supreme Court, George Palmer is now a prolific and successful composer, and his new work, Here, Now, Always – written especially for ANAM’s woodwinds cohort – will receive its world premiere performance
