Music Matinee's purpose is to bring live and free inspirational music into the City of Melbourne and provide performance opportunities for talented musicians.
This concert pairs two works that lean into the German Romantic tradition. Brahms’ Horn Trio, originally written for natural horn, evokes the instrument’s regal heritage, offering a reflective, stately mood. In contrast, Janáček’s Capriccio, composed for left-hand piano and written especially for Otakar Hollmann (a pianist injured in the First World War) brims with sharp energy and character.
