The Great Schubert Nine

“Giordano Bellincampi is a conductor who physically conveys the sheer joy of music-making from the podium.” – William Dart, New Zealand Herald

In this concert Giordano Bellincampi and the ANAM Orchestra trace Vienna’s musical DNA across a century of change.

The program begins with a hint of the past through Webern's arrangement of Bach's Second Ricercar from The Musical Offering, combining Baroque with the modernist ideas of the Second Viennese School. The Strauss family pieces bring the heartbeat of Vienna’s golden age of dance — Joseph’s celestial Sphärenklänge and Johann’s effervescent waltzes and overtures that once filled the city’s ballrooms. Together they set the scene for Schubert’s Symphony No. 9, “The Great,” whose expansive melodies inspired later generations from Bruckner to Mahler.

“This program highlights the immense talent of the ANAM players... I can’t wait to perform this exciting music with the ANAM Orchestra!” – Giordano Bellincampi
