MusiciansHelena Burns

Helena is a Brisbane-born violist undertaking her third year at ANAM  under the tutelage of Caroline Henbest. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours (2021), and a Master of Philosophy (2025) from the University of Queensland. During this time Helena had the privilege and joy of studying with the wonderful Professor Patricia Pollett.

Helena is an avid orchestral musician who frequently performs in her hometown of Brisbane as well as throughout Australia. She performed with Camerata - Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra on several occasions throughout 2023 as an Upbeat Artist and subsequently as a guest artist, featuring on Camerata’s studio recording of Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.

Throughout 2024 and 2025 Helena made debut performances with the Auckland Philharmonic, West Australian Queensland, Tasmanian and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras. She participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Summer Season and International Tour, performing in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Vienna’s Musikverein and the Sydney Opera House.

Helena enjoys performing as a chamber musician, and is a founding member of Amiti String Quartet. The ensemble has been increasingly active on the Australian music scene in recent years and in 2026 will release recordings of works by emerging Australian composers including Abigail Lui’s The Colour of Time and Ollie Muller’s KINETIC.

Helena is excited to return to ANAM in 2026, and immerse herself in Melbourne’s vibrant arts scene and creative community. She hopes to continue exploring all that Melbourne has to offer and learn as much as she can about the kind of musician she will be.
