MusiciansElizabeth Dawson

Elizabeth is in her second year at ANAM under the tutelage of Yoram Levy and David Elton. She began her musical journey at the age of 9, drawn to the trumpet’s bright sound and shiny bell. As the daughter of two music teachers, Elizabeth frequently attended Sydney Symphony Orchestra concerts and as a child decided that she would one day make it onto the professional orchestral stage.

Elizabeth completed a Bachelor of Music in Performance with First Class Honours at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music University of Sydney, under the tutelage of Leanne Sullivan and David Elton. She was awarded the Sydney University Dean’s List of Excellence in Academic Performance in both 2023 and 2024 and won the Conservatorium’s Brass Concerto Competition in 2024.

Elizabeth regularly performed as Principal Trumpet for the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and Brass Ensembles. She was selected for international tours to Europe and China with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and Brass Septet in 2022 and 2023.

Elizabeth is a frequent member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, performing as Principal Trumpet for their 2024 and 2025 programs, including Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben, and International Tours.

Elizabeth has played with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO), was selected for the ASO Fellowship in 2024 and has also performed on natural trumpet with the Pinchgut Opera. She has had wonderful opportunities to perform in masterclasses for Jeffrey Segal, Jeroen Berwaerts, Murray Grieg, and John Miller and was fortunate to perform with the Auckland Philharmonia in 2025 performing Mahler’s Symphony No. 3.

When Elizabeth isn’t practising her long tones, she enjoys ‘paint-by-numbers’ kits, golfing, running, and reading.
