ANAM Recital: Anna Rabinowicz (flute) - Passions and Digressions

ANAM Flautist Anna Rabinowicz presents a recital featuring works from the Baroque period to the 21st Century that focus on the idea of passion. The freedom to pursue ones‘ love for music, themes of heartbreak, as well as expressions of passionate and demonic outbursts, are brought to the fore in this program. This recital is comprised of compositionally-diverse works which highlight the wide range of technical possibilities of the flute, including extended techniques, unique colours and counterpoint.

Anna will be joined by cellist Joseph Kelly and harpsichordist Leo Nguyen for Princess Anna Amalia of Prussia‘s Flute Sonata in F major. Three solo works for flute will then follow, including Sigfrid Karg-Elert’s Sonata Appassionata, as well as two works by Australian composers: Richard Meale‘s Mélissande, which portrays the heroine in Debussy‘s tragic opera, Pelléas and Mélissande; and Brett Dean‘s Demons. She will be joined by pianist Peter de Jager for the final piece in the program, Schubert‘s Introduction, Theme and Variations on the theme “Trockne Blumen”, which is based on one of the final songs of Die schöne Müllerin, Schubert’s popular and heartbreaking song-cycle.
