Faculty, Head Of Brass & Trumpet (supported By John And Chris Sandow)

Yoram Levy is Head of Brass and Trumpet at the Australian National Academy of Music.

In 1982 Mr. Levy was invited by Maestro Zubin Mehta to join the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s trumpet section. From 1982 to 1990 he worked regularly with many great conductors, participating in numerous recordings, and touring Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. He has maintained his relationship with the IPO over the years having joined the orchestra on their Australian tours. In 2023 Mr Levy is scheduled to record new music with members of the IPO.

Mr Levy has appeared as principal trumpet with the New Zealand Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Queensland Symphony, and the Malaysian Philharmonic.
He performed as soloist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Queensland Symphony. A featured soloist on TSO-ABC Classics recordings, his CD of 20th-century music for trumpet and organ with Christopher Wrench has won great acclaim.

Since his appointment in 1990 as Senior Lecturer in Trumpet at the Queensland Conservatorium, Mr. Levy has been a leading Australian brass pedagogue.
His dedication to music education has contributed to the development of many exceptional brass instrumentalists and teachers.
His teachers and mentors include James Thompson, Vincent Cichowicz and Adolph Herseth.

Mr Levy recently retired from the position of Principal Trumpet of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, a position he held since 1998.
