The ANAM Orchestra and Faculty take 'self-drive' to lofty heights in these two symphonic masterworks, which will be performed without a conductor.

  • The Eighth is one of the sunniest and most pure of Dvořák’s symphonies. It is packed with good cheer and lilting melodies
  • When Robert Schumann discovered the score of Schubert’s Great C Major Symphony in 1838 – ten years after Schubert’s death – he also found a profoundly beautiful symphonic epic, a work which had a far-reaching effect on the future of the symphony. A performance of this supremely human masterpiece automatically becomes an event

“To have a beautiful idea is nothing special. The idea comes from itself and if it is beautiful and great, man can take no credit for that. But to develop the idea well and make something great from it, that is the most difficult, that is – art!” — DVOŘÁK

This performance is presented in partnership with Sofitel Melbourne On Collins
