Adelaide Festival: A Viennese Matinée

Adelaide Festival, a beacon of artistic innovation since 1960, stands among the world’s premier arts festivals, alongside Edinburgh and Avignon. Celebrating inclusivity, creativity, and sustainability, the festival has welcomed renowned artists like Grace Jones, Philip Glass, and Nina Simone among many others. The program spans theatre, opera, music, dance, and visual arts, uniting diverse talents from across the globe.

The existence of a musical Lingua Franca is part of on explanation of why the Viennese Classical period saw the emergence of so much divine music that has never since been forgotten. A shared musical language held musicians and connoisseurs close to each other and the composers could build upon each others achievements more easily that in any other time in music’s history. ANAM musicians offer a matinée of some of the era’s most beloved masterpieces. ANAM musicians alongside Paavali Jumppanen on piano and Zoë Black on violin, bring to life this music as though it was written just yesterday.
