ANAM Soundbites are hour-long concerts curated and performed by ANAM musicians.
This recital, featuring the deepest members of the brass section, features an amazing lineup of short arrangements and original works that showcase the surprisingly versatile low brass family. From Mozart to Tomasi, Strauss and Schubert, this program of classic and niche repertoire will quite literally blow you away.
The concert opens with a selection of classical repertoire, the Allegro movement from Mozart’s Symphony no. 13, the slow movement of Schubert’s String Quartet no. 4, and a trio arrangement of the suite from Beethoven’s The Mount of Olives. Following this, a superbly crafted abridged arrangement of Richard Strauss’s epic Alpine Symphony, Alpine Fantasy.
We then are then delighted to exhibit the newest member of our ANAM cohort, Michael Welch, as he performs Tomasi’s Etre ou ne pas etre (to be or not to be). This lamentatious work for solo tuba and trombone accompaniment is a musical evocation of Shakespeare’s soliloquy from Hamlet. To finish, AndreĢ Lafosse’s electrifying Suite Impromptu for low brass trio will leave you buzzing.
