Sounds of Australia: Our Sound

Sounds of Australia

The Sounds of Australia festival is an exploration of how we create music that reflects this land, which has had its own musical heritage spanning tens of thousands of years. A land marked by sorrow and resilience, and a society shaped by the stories of First Nations peoples, immigrants, and displaced communities. This is the challenge faced by every Australian artist, composer, and performer. Through this series of concerts, we invite you to experience music that resonates with the spirit of Australia.

In Our Sound, the journey across Australian sound landscape continues with Holly Harrison’s Airbender channelling raw energy and inventiveness, while Stuart Greenbaum’s 800 Million Heartbeats reflecting on time and the fragile beauty of life. Peter Sculthorpe’s String Quartet No. 11 Jabiru Dreaming draws deeply from the ancient stories of the land, resonating with the spirit of connection to Country. Through these works, and others in the program, we explore the soundscapes that form part of Australia’s evolving musical identity.
