The Sounds of Australia festival is an exploration of how we create music that reflects this land, which has had its own musical heritage spanning tens of thousands of years. A land marked by sorrow and resilience, and a society shaped by the stories of First Nations peoples, immigrants, and displaced communities. This is the challenge faced by every Australian artist, composer, and performer. Through this series of concerts, we invite you to experience music that resonates with the spirit of Australia.
Building on the rich tapestry of Australian musical heritage, A New Energy presents a curated selection of contemporary compositions that embody the land's enduring spirit and diverse narratives. Miriama Young’s Time and Tide: Echoes of Sydney Harbour mirrors the timeless rhythms of Australia’s waterways. Highlighting the resilience of the human spirit, Anne Cawrse’s Art of the Determined serves as a powerful tribute to personal and collective strength. Richard Mills and Rachel Bruerville round out the program with compositions that navigate between boldness and playfulness, capturing the pulse of modern Australian music.
