Despite being an integral part in how we understand music, the role of silence in Western art music is often overlooked and misunderstood. From the perpetual motion of Bach to the silent tension of Takemitsu, this program considers silence as it appears in works for flute throughout history, and across cultures.
Featuring recent Australian works from Kezia Yap and Anne Boyd, as well as staples in the repertory from JS Bach, Takemitsu and Pärt, this concert will encourage you to ask whether silence and music are separate phenomena, or inextricably linked.
Soundbites are hour long lunch time concerts curated and performed by ANAM musicians featuring diverse solo and chamber repertoire.
JS BACH Solo partita in A minor
T TAKEMITSU Air for solo flute

A BOYD A feather on the breadth of God for flute and piano
