Soundbite 3: Corners. Quartets for Horns

As a musician's instrumental proficiency develops, so does their artistic taste and temperament. Throughout 2024, ANAM musicians curate and present Soundbites – concerts that are a snapshot in time, summarising their year of training and revealing glimipses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Experience the unique and intimate points of view of ANAM musicians throughout this series.

"The ANAM horns present a contrasting programme of music written specifically for horn quartet, featuring music from Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. Often as horn players, we find ourselves playing quartets between lessons and rehearsals, and we would like to share this music with an audience. This is something we rarely have the opportunity to do.

We chose these works to demonstrate the variety of playing we do as horn musicians, in the range of tone colours and the overall character. These pieces are at once quite earnest, but fun and entertaining, which well describes horn playing itself. We hope that you’re able to enjoy this works as much as we enjoy playing them." - Tom Allen
