Soundbite: Lilly Yang (flute)

Soundbites are hour long lunch time concerts curated and performed by ANAM musicians featuring diverse solo and chamber repertoire.

"This program “Flute in chamber works” was curated by my flute colleague, Rachel Lau, and I in hopes of celebrating the lesser-known hidden gems of chamber repertoire for the flute. We will be presenting a total of four works in this concert. The first piece, Ecstatic Dances for 2 flutes, is by Australian composer, Ross Edwards. This will be followed by prolific French late-romantic composer, Mel Bonis’ Suite en trio op. 59 for flute, violin and piano. Written for two flutes and piano, Japanese composer, Yuko Uebayashi dedicated Au dela du temps (Transcending time) to her friend and French flautist, Jean Ferrandis. There are four movements in this work and each of them depict a specific image of light. The concert will conclude with a trio that was written by the Italian composer, Nino Rota. His music has been described as “having a good-humoured energy verging on satire”, which one will definitely be able hear in his Trio for flute, violin and piano." – Lilly Yang
