Soundbite: Island Songs

Soundbite Liam Wooding

Soundbites are hour long lunch time concerts curated and performed by ANAM musicians. Throughout the year, these concerts feature diverse solo and chamber repertoire giving you an indication of what our musicians are working on at the time.

At the start of the year, we were fortunate enough to participate in the Adam Chamber Music Summer School where we spent a week in tutorials and masterclasses with the New Zealand String Quartet and pianist Stephen de Pledge working on this repertoire. We think that this Brahms trio is distinctive amongst his output, and a critic from the first performance of the work writes, “The composer appears in a new guise, which will bring him fresh friends and admirers, and will greatly enlarge the circle of his supporters. Now freed from the highly severe, austere, and sometimes hard manor which has mostly predominated his compositions so far, in these latest works, melody flows effortlessly, and the pleasure they provoke is unforced.”
