Fallen Heroes

The Australian String Quartet leads a performance of Strauss’s searing Metamorphosen, a threnody from the rubble of 1940’s Europe. The work draws on the threads and nerve-endings of Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony, heard in an arrangement for piano quartet by the composer’s pupil Ferdinand Ries.
