With twelve trumpeters converging on the South Melbourne Town Hall in March for Janáček’s spine-tingling fanfare, ANAM’s 2018 concert season is assured of a spectacular lift-off. For this special season opening concert, ANAM’s musicians will be joined on stage by their ANAM mentors for a ramble through some of Bohemia’s most engaging landscapes, concluding with Josef Suk’s elegiac Serenade for strings.

"For me, this concert is the heart of ANAM, a real opportunity to delve deeper in to what ANAM is all about. To showcase the different instrumental groups, for myself and our esteemed training artists to really gel with our 2018 cohort and for audiences to share their journey." – Nick Deutsch, ANAM Artistic Director

"Czech musical language is, on the whole, a happy language. When Bohemian composers express melancholy, it is in a delicately engaging way, without the crushing world-weariness and pessimism of the Russians. More often, Bohemian music expresses joy, happiness, dancing, festivals.” – Harold Schonberg, Senior Music Critic for the New York Times
