Emotionally Exhausted yet Spiritually Renewed
"A journey of grappling with difficult emotions. Don't Smoke in Bed, a moment of laying all the cards out on the table and finally saying goodbye sets the scene. Simone's powerhouse contemporaries, Jolivet and Messiaen, continue exploring this emotional al arc, firstly by working through the more brightly burning, adrenaline fueled passions that arise in Chat de Lino's, before exploring a darker introspective conversation with oneself via Le Merle Noir. Works by contemporary Australian composers turn the emotional tide in a calmer, more positive direction by introducing the vibraphone in Desert Rose by Jane Stanley, before ending with the premier of Dawn, a seven piece chamber work composed by Callum O'rielly.
Learning the notes is going well on my part. Right now I am planing the rehearsal schedule for October as well as figuring out all the logistics and tech requirements of the performance and how it will go." - Maria Zhdanovich
