**NEW START TIME** ANAM Recital: Joshua Jones

Please note: this recital will now start at 4pm, not 3.30pm as was previously published.

As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time - simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Experience the unique and intimate points of view of each musician individually in this recital series. Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how.

In 2024 the ANAM Set is back in a special iteration. Musicians in their 3rd year of training present a specially commissioned work as part of their recital program.

Intense Cello Cardio

"Offenbach's Concerto Militaire may not be as well-known as the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto or other works of the French Romantic era, yet it is still a vibrant and ferocious piece that showcases technical skill on the cello. Gulda’s Concerto for Cello and Wind Ensemble feature a similar degree of virtuosity but with the added excitement of a wind ensemble, with guitar and drum kit. This piece prominently features influences from adjacent genres, such as jazz, through the inclusion of a guitar and drum kit. Lee Bradshaw’s ANAM set piece, ‘Radiance’ (or The Black Sonata) is a sonata for cello and percussion which explores several contrasting atmospheres, soundscapes and characters. Brahms Cello Sonata No. 2 in F Major portrays the cello as a triumphant character, which plays in a collaborative and sensitive manner with the virtuosic piano part.

I am excited to begin ensemble rehearsals for the Gulda Cello Concerto soon, and continue rehearsals with Jesse Vivante in preparation for our recording session of Lee Bradhsaw's 'Radiance' (or The Black Sonata)." - Joshua Jones
