As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time - simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Experience the unique and intimate points of view of each musician individually in this recital series. Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how.
Sounds of Solo Snare
"The snare drum is an instrument that has long been the core foundation of all percussion technique, and is the instrument all percussionists will spend most of their time playing. It is also the percussion instrument used across nearly all genre's of music, whether as part of a drum kit, a member of a marching band, or up the back of an orchestra. I hope to stretch the audiences perception of the snare drum as an 'accompanying instrument' and explore the multitude of sounds and textures available for the drum as a solo instrument.
I'm having a great time exploring the capabilities of the snare drum! I trust the audience will hear all the nuances that I've discovered about what is commonly seen as such a simple instrument." - Jamie Willson
