As a musician’s instrumental proficiency develops, so too does their artistic taste and temperament. Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time - simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? What do they want to communicate? How does their art help them understand the world better? Experience the unique and intimate points of view of each musician individually in this recital series. Hear what the next generation of virtuosi have to say, and how.
Music inspired by movement
"This recital is inspired by a deep passion for music and dance, exploring genres across different cultures and centuries. Being surrounded by dance from a young age has created a strong bond for me between body and music. My program showcases pieces with roots from South America, Africa, Southeast Europe, Asia, and New Zealand to celebrate various dance traditions and expressions of rhythm. It has been a rewarding challenge preparing works that push the flute and piano to technical extremes and explore the connection between music and movement.
It's been so joyful preparing this recital that intertwines two of my favourite things - music and dance! Rehearsing pieces connected to movement has opened a new sense of composure in my body when performing. I'm especially excited to perform 'Little Dancings' by New Zealand composer Christopher Blake and bring an element of home to my recital." - Emica Taylor
